Short visit of Kaunas

After some weeks I choose to start visiting Lithuania. For my first trip – exept Trakai – I went to Kaunas, the seconde largest city of Lithuania which was also the capital of country before Vilnius.

The trip

Why Kaunas

I decided to visit for two reasons: The city is really close to Vilnius and I want enjoy the last summer days outside Vilnius.

With my girlfriend we leave Vilnius in the morning by train. it took 1 hour to be in Kaunas central station. After you should walk 30 minutes more to see the Old Town with two stops for coffee in gas station and in the Akropolis shoping center.

The lithuanian city was full of tourists, especialy from Spain, the southern country taking part to the Eurobasket championship in Kaunas theses weeks. I don’t have to tell that I heard more spanish than lithuanian.

Old Town

We visited only the Old Town, because of the time and because of I don’t wan’t to see something else yet. We started by the church of Vytautas the Great on the Nerman river, then reach the Town Hall square and its chuch and City Hall, despite the square was ready for the basktball mactch projection of the night, the market took place and I found some good soviet stuff to send to my eramus friend. Then we visited the Kaunas Castle’s tower and museum. After that we start our walk by the Kaunas Cathedral to the Kaunas Basilica thought Vilniaus street and the Freedom Avenue.

The day finished by moving slowly in a parc to reach the train station.
