Amiens between two trains

I decided to meet my friend in Lille to go in the Netherlands together. The cheapest way to reach Lille was to stop in the capital of my region, it gave me the possibility to see the city I often heard about but never visited.

Information about Amiens

Half way from Paris to Lille, the most important city of Picardy, Amiens is crossed by the Somme river. The city is mainly knows because of its awesome gothic Cathedral, which is far much better than the Parisian sister.

The nice old city center is build arround channels (Saint Leu district), and gave the nickname « northern Venisa » to Amiens. The city had also the highest building (104 meters) in Europe with the Perret Tower front to the new design train station of Amiens.

Some personality are attached to the city, for example Jules Verne or Saint Ansgar.

Between my two trains

I bought my train ticket in the station of Creil in the morning. At 8am I left my city to Lille. In Amiens I had a two hours break during when I chose to see some places as the Cathedral of Amiens, which is thelargest in Europe right after the Vatican! Near it are some monument, the clock of Louis Dewailly, the statue of Peter the Hermit as example.

I walked on the Troix Cailloux street (Three Stones street), the pedestrian and main street of the city, it was not crowed despite it was lunch time.

I finish my tour by crossing the channels. It was my biggest surprise, the buildings on both sides are really nice and the colors make the place completly different than the rest of the city.
